Talbot has shoulder surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins playoff hero Maxime Talbot has undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.

He is expected to miss training camp and at least the beginning of next season, which is a big blow for the Penguins.

It will take four to five months for Talbot to recover from the injury, making it questionable whether he will return to the ice before 2010.

The forward scored both goals in the team’s 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 to clinch the Stanley Cup.

Penguins re-sign Guerin

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed veteran forward Bill Guerin to a one-year contract.

Guerin played a pivotal role in helping the team win the Stanley Cup and reach the Finals for the second straight year.

He wanted to return to Pittsburgh so badly that he took a significant pay cut in order to do just that.

Now he will have the chance to play for the defending Stanley Cup champions and try to help the team to accomplish a rare repeat.
